《Miantiao 面条》讲述了一位在美国长大的中国小女孩，在日常生活中遇到的一段关于食物和语言的小困惑：为什么番茄红酱意面也叫“面条”？在爸爸温柔的解释中，她发现食物有许多区别，也有许多共通之处。面条可以是细的、粗的、清淡的、浓郁的，也可以有不同的形状和名字。它们都带着家的味道，承载着记忆和文化。《Miantiao》既是父母送给孩子的一份成长礼物，也是为亚裔文化、多元族裔与跨文化亲子家庭发声的温暖绘本。
Miantiao follows a young bilingual Chinese girl growing up in America, who finds herself puzzled by a bowl of spaghetti in red sauce: How can this be “noodles,” too? Through a gentle conversation with her father, she learns that food has differences and similarities across cultures. Noodles can look different, taste different, and even have different names. But they can all feel like home.Miantiao is both a heartfelt gift from parents to their child and a celebration of Asian heritage, multicultural identity, and the universal language of food.
About the Author
Mumu has many roles. She keeps reminding herself that being Nora's mum is the priority of her life but quite often she's addicted to writing little tiny stories inspired by her fast growing little girl. They also have a cat named Haishen who comes in and out of the stories from time to time.
The inspiration for Miantiao comes from Nora's real confusion between miantiao (noodle in Chinese) and spaghetti. It was noticed that at home Nora would say her favourite food is miantiao while at school when asked she changed it to spaghetti. This myth was soon captured by Mumu and thereafter turned into this petite drama written and drawn by the mother herself.
Miantiao was still Nora's favourite food (instant cup noodle actually ...). But just to calrify, Haishen was never into miantiao. She does join the families for meals just by sitting on the table looking. Very peculiar animal indeed.
